Browning’s Dramatic Monologue Readers favor Robert Browning’s story poems in a form he perfected, the dramatic monologue (Kennedy 1169). Dramatic monologues have four basic characteristics: they contain a single speaker monologue, they have a silent audience, the speech occurs at some dramatic moment in the speakers life, and the speaker reveals his personality without realizing he does so. Probably one of the most famous dramatic monologues ever written is Browning’s â€Å"My Last Duchess† (661). Robert Browning is known as the father of the dramatic monologue. The Duke of Ferrara, the single speaker in â€Å"My Last Duchess,† is portrayed as a jealous but arrogant man. Throughout the poem the Duke repetitively expresses his concern of other men fancying his wife. He was made jealous by everything the duchess did. The Duke was especially jealous of Fra Pandolf, the man who painted the picture of the duchess in the poem. She was â€Å"too easily impressed â€Å"(23) by the painter. Everyone who passed by the Duchess received â€Å"much the same smile†(44) as the Duke. He seems to be possessive of the Duchess saying, â€Å"That’s my last Duchess† (1) as if he won her. Later in the poem his attitude toward other people looking at her changes when he says, â€Å"Will’t please you sit and look at her?† (5). An important aspect of â€Å"My Last Duchess† is Browning’s use of a silent audience. Throughout the reading no one else speakers other than the Duke himself. METHODOLOGY Research analysis of this paper is aimed at the relevance of Magic Bullet theory in today’s western society, with argument for applicability of the theory and evidence to back up this framework. Series of instances of propagandistic advertising will also be elaborated, based on theoretical framework. Use of scholar’s online journals, taught in class (The Hague University of applied science by Dr. Bruce Mutsvairo) and Mass media relations books is used to put up this paper together. Literature review Propaganda Defined According to Doob (1948) carefully illustrated that it is neither possible nor desirable to have a clear definition of propaganda because it links to complexity of behavior in different times and cultures. However, Jowett and O’Donnell (1992:4) criticized this and define propaganda as the deliberate and systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions and direct behaviour to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist. He specified that without proper identification of the terms it will be highly difficult to analyze it. In the same perspectives, Pratkanis and Aronson (2001) recognized propaganda as the abuse of persuasion and it is regarded as a crafty deception. The basic information delivered by propaganda tends to control public opinion and shape their behavioral patterns. In view of some scholars propagandistic messages were created to influence the public’s view. In this contexts, this paper analysis contends that advertising is a form of propaganda and it is used by structural establishments to influence their audience. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK Magic Bullet theory of communication also known as â€Å"Hypodermic Needle† widely believed by media scholars as the oldest mass media communication theories since 1930 during the Second World War (SWW) in both Germany and United states, this made influence in the mind of people. Grendel and Frankenstein are two monsters whose society ignores their existence and find them to be burdensome to their society based on the mere fact that they are not like the rest of their surrounding man-kind. Grendel and Frankenstein both strive to accept their place in the views of their surrounding peoples. Although their sporadic happiness comes from them engaging in fights and killing members of their societies, they learn to accept their place within the societies by coping with their ability to stay loyal to themselves and to fight back with self-devotion and not wanting to give up on themselves.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Grendel, surprisingly, adapts quite well to his society despite its detestation of his existence. Grendel live is a rattlesnake-guarded cave, which allows himself to detach from his society, giving him the necessary space to cope with the troublesome thoughts among his people about Grendel. Unlike Frankenstein, Grendel tries to associate with the members of his civilization but is rejected every time he tries to do so. Every night Grendel goes to Herot to listen to the Sharper’s stories because the history interests him. He is quite intrigued and appreciative of the tales he hears, but when he comes in contact with those from Herot, they do not reciprocate the appreciation of his presence in Herot. The ones he admires so much taunt and torture him to the point they try to kill him for â€Å"intruding.† As retaliation, Grendel fights back and raids Herot every night.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  On the flipside, Frankenstein shows no interest in interacting with his society. He feels as though his society already has pre-conceived notions about his existence, and that if he even tried to win their affection, he would fail in doing so. He knows that the members of his surrounding civilization detest those different from themselves. Eventually their ways of demoralizing Frankenstein’s feelings lead Frankenstein to escape from their antagonizing. Frankenstein ventures to the North Pole, one of the coldest and most deserted, barren, and empty places known to man-kind. He stays isolated at the North Pole until he realizes Dr. Frankenstein has been following him, hoping to push him off the edge of world, never to be seen or heard from again. Frankenstein, once again flees, trying to escape his father, whom later dies. Frankenstein, alt... ...d doing for others are always good deeds. And to be honest, he is used to being on the run, so it is no different for him whether or not a miracle happens and someone takes him in for saving their lives or if he continues to live how he has been, always on the go. Frankenstein is an independent person and learns to accept his place in the world as that.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Both these characters exude such power and strength through their personalities. The way they handle situations and the way they don’t give up on themselves is something that is truly honorable. Grendel and Frankenstein, both very different from each other, are both very similar in regards to their heroism. These two characters are essentially alone in their societies and have nobody to turn to for help. They base everything around their beliefs and what they feel is the good and bad thing to do, whether society rejects their beliefs or not. Their loyalty to themselves illustrates their heroism of honesty, loyalty, courage and bravery and their never ending power to continue to fight alone for themselves against a world who wishes to overlook their existence and contributions to diversify the society.

This paper has been written to debate on the topic whether the humans should be allowed to exploit the nature for their betterment or not. It is indeed true that the humans are the most intelligent beings in the world; however it is not a good idea to exploit the nature for the betterment of the humans. We just have one Earth and nature is very precious to us in every way, it is therefore the duty of each and every individual living on the Earth to take care of the Earth and save the nature around us. Nature basically consists of a wide array of things in life such as greenery i. e. the plants and the trees; the wild life consists of all the precious animal species, the mountains, etc. However, the natural resources all around the world are depleting day by day because of the mishaps that are occurring due to the negligence of the humans. As it is mentioned in the paper above that the humans are the most intelligent creatures existing in the world but they do not have any right to exploit the natural resources that are God-gifted to them, firstly because it is very unethical to do so and secondly, the humans will themselves loose the opportunity to avail the benefits that they are getting from the existence of nature on Earth. Moreover, in case the humans exploit the nature today, the future generations will have no resources left to survive and to avail their benefits. There are various benefits that humans are getting from nature such as the trees provide us shade; they make the environment clean, they provide us with fruits, etc. and if people start exploiting them, a day will come when there will not be a single tree on the Earth as the removal of plants can damage the ecosystem. My Observation Essays My Observation Essay My Observation Essay Name: Instructor: Course: Date: My Observation 1.35 pm- I arrived at the p.s 120 schoolyard located at the back and stood at the middle. From this position, I could notice everything that happened all around me. The first thing I noticed was that there were several parents also at the schoolyard pacing about and waiting patiently. There were several exits at the back of the school building that led into the schoolyard. The schoolyard also had a paddleball court. 1. 38pm- A security officer strolled into the schoolyard to inspect the area. After making his rounds, he went and stood at the center back of the schoolyard. 1.43 pm- I was still at the schoolyard when three classes made their way to the schoolyard from the exit door at left backside of the yard. The three classes then lined up in different areas in front of orange cones. Each grouping was representative of the different classes. Each class had two lines, one for the boys and the other for the girls. Even though the children were supposed to stand in line and remain orderly, that was not the case. Some of the children were leaning on the fence; others were jumping all over the place as they threw and swung around their book bags, but other children behaved correctly and remained orderly. The parents who stood at schoolyard moved forward to pick up their children, but before they could take them away, they had to sign a sheet of paper for the teacher who was supposed to release the children to them. The children were then released and the children went away with their respective parents and guardians. 1.45- A similar scenario took form once more. Three more classes came out into the schoolyard only this time they came in from the center exit located at the back of the schoolyard. Once more, the three classes lined up separately in front of the orange cones. Each class again had two lines, one for the boys and the other for the girls just like the previous group that came before them. In a similar fashion like the other lot, some children were behaving in a disorderly manner and some were orderly. The parents and guardians then moved forward, signed a sheet of paper and the children released to them by the teacher while the security officer kept a close watch of what was happening. 1.50pm- A teacher and the school security officer were speaking to a man who was recording his children as they came out of the school. The teacher and the security officer requested the man to put away his phone and stop recording since it was against school policy to record within the school vicinity. It also made other parents uneasy since they felt that the man was recording their children. In fact, it was a mother brought the issue to the attention of the teacher and the school security officer in the first place. After the conversation, the man put away his phone. 1.58- Three more classes came out. This time round, they came from the right exit located at the back of the schoolyard. There were still other parents in the schoolyard waiting for their children to come out. The children in a similar fashion like the rest of the groups stood in front of the orange cones under the direction of their teacher. The children made two lines each for the different classes. One line was meant or the girls and the other for the boys. Parents again went forth to pick up their children and just like the other parents and guardians, they had to sign a sheet of paper before the children were released. The teacher then released the child to their respective parents and guardians.

Medeas Monologue by Euripides (Mother Character) In one of the most chilling monologues in all of Greek Mythology, Medea seeks revenge against the heroic yet callous Jason (the father of her children) by killing her own offspring. Found in the play Medea by the Greek writer Euripides,  this monologue offers an alternative to the traditional female monologues found in classic literature. In the play, Medea kills her children (offstage) and then flies away on the chariot of Helios, and while many have argued that this play demonizes women, others contend that Medea represents literature’s first feminist heroine, a woman who chooses her own destiny despite the hand she was dealt by the gods. Although not the typical  mother character monologue, Madeas monologue  is deeply expressive of the difficulty and multiplicity of the emotions love, loss, and revenge, making it a truly excellent audition piece for female actors who want to convey their ability to portray a depth of complex emotions. Even Euripides contemporaries found the monologue and play to be shocking to the Athenian audiences at the time, though this may have stemmed more from the artistic liberties Euripides took in retelling Medeas story- the children historically were said to have been killed by the Corinthians, not by Medea- and the play itself was ranked third of three at the Dionysia Festival where it premiered in 431 B.C.

While he aspires to live a liberated life, he puts to risk the liberty of others around him, which happened to be a side effect of Enlightenment. The sexual hunger of Don Giovanni makes him blatantly mock the vows of love and marriage, put at risk time honored bonds and relationships, and disturb the social distinctions that to some extent held the society together. No doubt, Don Giovanni qualifies to be a true Enlightenment hero who is committed to live a liberated life, thereby giving way to a creative disturbance that shakes the foundations of old norms, values and ethics on the altar of reason (Clive 45). The thing to be noted is that in the plot of this opera, Don Giovanni is not left at a dead end, but the destiny allows him a chance to repent and go to heaven instead of hell. Yet, in the true spirit of Enlightenment, Don Giovanni chooses to live a life on his own terms, rather than bowing before the constraints of the society. Hence, Don Giovanni turns out to be a true Enlightenment rebel hero. In this opera, the music by Mozart also highlights Don Giovanni as a happy and confident person who is free of all superficial constraints and superstitions.
